Head of Cake
We are looking for someone to join our team at the bakery and become our Head of Cake.
About Us
Bakeri Baltzersen was established in 2020 and is a wholesale and retail bakery based at Kettlesing Head - 7 Miles outside Harrogate.
In 2022 we finished the refurbishment of an adjacent building which has allowed us to split the bakery into separate bread and pastry rooms. We have lots of relatively new equipment and a really nice space in which to work.

You'll be joining a team of around 9 full-time bakers who are really great at what they do. We bake for around 100 wholesale partners plus our two shops and a cafe.
The Role
It's been a little while since we've had someone in charge of cakes and bakes and that's something we need to change ASAP.
We're looking for someone with some decent experience. You haven't got to have experience in a similar role, but baking at a scale larger than a home setting is required.
We are going to ask you to take some of our existing recipes, blend them with some of yours and create a new line of cakes that we can serve at our cafe, in our shops and also offer to our wholesale partners.
You will need to have a highly organised approach to test bake and then scale recipes. We can't keep baking the same things all the time so you'll need to have the creativity to bring new cakes into the range at regularly intervals in the year.
Aside from baking you'll also need to consider efficient methods of work, correct costing of products, presentation of finished bakes, allergens, dietary alternatives (GF/DF/Ve), methods of storage and transport and more.
You will also take on responsibility for production of our existing range of traybakes - with the opportunity to refresh and refine these.
We know the right person will be able to grow this area of the business significantly, so the role will soon come with supervisory duties as we ask you to build a small team to deliver the required volumes.

Shifts
The bakery is open 7 days/week, this allows some flexibility in your work schedule. You can work hours/shifts across the week that suit your personal situation - as long as that also fits in with the demands that other parts of the bakery place on the equipment.
There is no access to the bakery site via public transport so you must have the ability to get to work by car.
Hours
This position could be a full-time or part-time post depending on your situation. If you want to work limited days/hours, and we need more production capacity, this will influence that small team we'll ask you to build to support your work.
Pay
The pay for this position is £14.39/hr.
Holidays
Holidays are calculated on an hourly basis at Baltzersen’s and you accrue holiday for every hour you work.
